Dave Summer, de son nom de scène Function, commence sa carrière de DJ il y a 15 ans à New York. Il commence par monter son label « Infrastructure » (Damon Wild …) puis emménage à Berlin en 2008. Il y travaille avec Regis et Silent Servant.
Fonde le collectif « Sandwell District » avec Regis et Female.
Signe son premier album avec Ostgut Ton en 2013, « Incubation », finalisé par Tobias Freund.
