« Tonbé Lévé », c’est le premier album très remarqué du batteur guadeloupéen Arnaud Dolmen en leader. La rencontre volcanique entre le Gwoka (musique traditionnelle de la Guadeloupe) et l’esthétique du jazz contemporain.
This is the best French(2017/2018)Jazz album : it's got that loving, distanciated, all inclusive approach to it which makes it so free and so jazz. There's of course Arnaud's root music- I mean Guadeloupian Gwoka- in there, but one can also relish the brazilian, Caribbean overtones it offers (Martinican Mazurka, Guadeloupean Biguine, ballads); (remember Sonny Rollins's founding, trend-setting "St Thomas"?).Not to mention the extraordinary contribution, the great mastery tenor/ soprano saxophone soloist Sanchez and piano player Montana display all along. On top of this is Dolmen's at once subtle, sensitive, strong workmanship : this is a great endeavour all jazz fans will support and praise.Tony Toumson.
